Shane is the President of Syracuse Family Counseling. In 2015, Shane created SFC to help fill a need where people can engage with therapy in a comfortable, clean, and private environment. His clinical training started in 2003, and he graduated with his Masters from Syracuse University in 2008. His training has been primarily in Family Systems Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Attachment theories, Solution-Focused Modalities, and Interpersonal Psychotherapy. He worked at St Joseph Hospital, The Brownell Center, Liberty Post (early intervention), and opened his first private practice in 2012. Shane loves what he does and is extremely grateful to have such a great team to work with. Shane takes a lot of pride in the fact that he gets to work with so many individuals and couples on their journeys through life.


Theresa Hobbs, LCSW-R

Theresa Hobbs graduated from Syracuse University in 2007. Since then, she has worked in various clinical settings, counseling diverse groups of people. She is also very experienced working with veterans. She is committed to helping people who struggle with anxiety, depression, relationship/marital stress, and substance use disorders. She draws on a variety of methods, including CBT, DBT, and motivational interviewing. She is caring, encouraging, and direct. Theresa has many years of experience working with couples and struggles that come with divorce, infidelity, communication, and separation.


Patti Finton, LCSW-R, MBA

Patti Finton, LCSW-R, MBA

Patti is the backbone of the practice. As the Director of Operations, she has been vital in helping the practice grow and meet patients’ needs. Patti graduated from Syracuse University with a Master’s in Social Work and has an MBA from SUNY Oswego.  She has worked in social work since 2010, when she started at Vera House.  Patti has worked in several settings, including a college counseling center, an inpatient rehab, a large county-based clinic, a Primary Care Center, and an outpatient behavioral health clinic. Patti is certified in DBT and Prolonged Exposure to trauma and is trained in CBT, Attachment theories, and Family System Theory. Patti focuses on children and adolescents, as she is an expert witness on trauma for a local county.  She has many years of experience working with family court and issues surrounding divorce, separation, abuse and neglect, adoption, custody, and legal matters. She specializes in teens and young adults, working with many life transitions, including high school and college students. However, Patti also sees adults. 


Heather Robillard, LMSW

With a profound understanding of human behavior and over 20 years of experience, Heather is a licensed master social worker who excels in her work with adolescents and their families. After graduating with her Master’s in Social Work from Syracuse University, she has effectively applied her skills in various settings, earning her a reputation for empathy and the ability to forge strong, trusting relationships with her clients. Heather’s therapeutic practice incorporates effective modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems, and Solution-Focused Therapy to address a spectrum of issues from mood regulation to anxiety and depression. By creating a secure and encouraging space, Heather empowers her clients—especially adolescents—to navigate their complexities and enhance their overall mental health and relationships. Through her client-centered approach, she addresses immediate concerns and builds a foundation for sustained mental wellness.


Kim Loughlin, LMHC

Kim Loughlin, LMHC

Kim is a seasoned professional in the field of mental health, holding a Master of Science in School Psychology from SUNY Oswego since 2003. With over 20 years of experience in public schools, she has impacted the lives of K-12 students through her dedicated service. In 2020, Kim attained a second Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from SUNY Oswego, followed by her licensure in April 2023. Her private practice experience spans both adolescents and adults. Kim is also a skilled therapeutic crisis intervention trainer, employing CBT, DBT, and solution-focused therapy techniques. Her approach is profoundly person-centered and empathetic, attuned to the unique needs of each individual.


Sandra

Sandra Carter, LMSW

Sandra Carter graduated from Syracuse University with a Master’s in Social work. She has over 20 years of well-rounded experience in casework, counseling, and advocacy in mental health. She recently served as the Executive Director of NAMI Syracuse, where she conducted outreach and education to promote mental health programming for Onondaga and surrounding counties, explicitly focusing on populations that often have difficulty accessing services. She has a background in domestic violence and crisis counseling. She conducted disability advocacy, assisting clients denied Social Security disability benefits. Additionally, she assisted in the creation of a trauma-sensitive framework for Massachusetts public schools, which promoted a safe and supportive school culture for children experiencing behavioral health challenges. She incorporates Cognitive-Behavioral, Family Systems, and solution-focused therapy.
